Title: Joyful Premonitions

Year Completed: 1993

Size: H75” × W56.5” / H190 cm × W143 cm

Material: old cotton, old silk (obi), new cotton, upholstery fabric

Statement: This design comes from several places in Europe, viewing a canal or river from the foreground to the horizon, where the sea and sky seem to merge without borders. If one looks casually, one sees two large colorful curved shapes, but if one looks closely at the background, one sees that it too has large curved shapes, echoing the colorful ones. Although the background is entirely black, the curves are created by using silk strips which reflect differently at different angles, and filling in the remaining area with cotton, which does not reflect.
